Movie Review

Just before Princess Fiona’s (Cameron Diaz) rescue by Shrek (Mike Myers) in the first film, King Harold (John Cleese) and Queen Lillian (Julie Andrews) are revealed to have come to the magic deal-maker Rumpelstiltskin (Walt Dohrn) for help with breaking Fiona’s curse. King Harold is about to sign a contract to break the curse in exchange for Rumpelstiltskin becoming king of Far, Far Away, but word comes that Fiona has been rescued, causing King Harold to decline the offer. A disgruntled Rumpelstiltskin in the present day wishes that Shrek was never born, vowing vengeance.

Meanwhile, Shrek has grown tired of his life being a local celebrity and his overwhelming family and friends, as well as the fact he feels he isn’t a “real ogre” anymore. When they arrive at Far, Far Away for the ogre babies' first birthday, an angry mob become fans and asks Shrek to autogarph pitch forks and torches, a boy asks him to do his roar, and the three pigs eats the birthday cake. All this makes Shrek roar in frustration and everyone applauds; he smashes a new cake and angrily leaves the castle. Outside, Fiona talks to Shrek about his anger and his wish to be a real ogre again. Fiona tells Shrek he has everything, but dosen't see it, and she heads back inside the castle. Shrek sees Rumpelstiltskin faking to be hurt, and insists he joins him for a ride in his carrige. Rumpelstiltskin offers him a day to feel like a real ogre again, in exchange for a day from Shrek’s childhood. Shrek agrees and signs the contract. Shrek enjoys his day being feared by villagers, until he sees his home in the swamp is nothing but a big tree stump and is soon captured by a group of witches and taken to Rumpelstiltskin, the king of Far, Far Away; Rumpelstiltskin took the day Shrek was born and even successfully makes King Harold and Queen Lillian sign the contract to release Fiona and disappear, making him king. He even enslaves the ogre population. Rumpelstiltskin declares that within 24 hours, Shrek, having never been born, will cease to exist altogether.

Shrek is able to escape his confinement and rescues Donkey (Eddie Murphy), who works as a pack mule. Donkey at first doesn’t trust Shrek and fears him, but eventually becomes friends with the ogre. Donkey is able to deduce by folding the contract paper that the exit clause of Rumpelstiltskin’s contract is true love’s first kiss before the 24 hours run out. Not finding Fiona in the tower, the two stumble upon a secret community of warrior ogres led by Fiona, who dismisses Shrek’s attempts to reconcile with her. Shrek also finds Puss in Boots (Antonio Banderas), now Fiona’s pet who retired from swordsmanship and is now obese.

Rumpelstiltskin is to lead the nightly ogre hunt throughout the kingdom, and Fiona plans to defeat him along the route. However, Rumpelstiltskin has hired the Pied Piper, who with a magical flute entrances the army of ogres to dance themselves all the way to the castle. Puss and Donkey are able to save Fiona and Shrek. Shrek has by this point all but won Fiona’s heart, but since Fiona doesn’t truly love him, their kiss doesn’t fix the spell. Fiona leaves to save the ogres and the kingdom without Shrek, Puss, or Donkey.

Rumpelstiltskin announces to the kingdom that whoever brings him Shrek will get whatever they want with no strings attached. Shrek turns himself in and in return Rumpelstiltskin frees the ogre army. Shrek is imprisoned along with Fiona, since Fiona is a princess by day, she could not go free, but is deeply moved by Shrek's self-sacrifice. The two are to be fed to Dragon, Donkey’s wife in the regular timeline, but Puss, Donkey, and the ogres arrive and battle Rumpelstiltskin’s forces.

Shrek and Fiona escape Dragon and defeat Rumpelstiltskin, but the 24 hours have already passed for Shrek, who begins to fade into thin air. Just before he does so, Fiona kisses Shrek, now truly in love with him, and breaks Rumpelstiltskin’s contract and her curse. The alternate reality falls apart and the true timeline is restored with Shrek roaring in his frustration back at the birthday party. Shrek embraces Fiona, his family, and friends again, and live happily ever after.

During the end credits, they and all their family and friends including the ogre army, celebrate the ogre babies’ first birthday in a larger party which includes Rumpelstiltskin, now held prisoner, forced to watch his pet goose explode by Fiona's singing, and gets tormented by the Piper. A curtain call follows in the credits, along with a montage of clips from the past three films: Shrek, Shrek 2, and Shrek the Third.

Movie Review

Lawrence Talbot (Benicio del Toro), a renowned Shakespearean actor, is touring London and races to the family's estate in Blackmoor after being informed of his brother's death. He has been estranged from his family for many years since his father, Sir John Talbot (Anthony Hopkins) sent him to an insane asylum after witnessing his mother's mysterious death.

Lawrence promises Gwen (Emily Blunt), his brother's widow, that he will investigate his brother's death. Lawrence goes to the gypsy camp on the night of a full moon looking for clues of the murder. A superhumanly strong wolf-like creature descends on the camp, slaughtering many people. Lawrence is attacked by the creature, who bites him on the shoulder before being chased off by the armed townspeople.

Lawrence soon becomes a werewolf and learns of his curse. On the search for the truth, he's trailed by the suspicion-filled Inspector Francis Aberline (Hugo Weaving) who decided to take on the case of the mysterious murders. Through a treacherous and obstacle filled series of events, it is later revealed to him that his mother did not kill herself, but instead his father (who, too, is a werewolf) gruesomely slaughtered her in full view of his past self. On the next full moon, Lawrence transforms into a werewolf and attacks a party of hunters; the following morning, his father assists the authorities in the apprehension of Lawrence and they take him to the secluded asylum in London. After a violent escape from the 'prison', he is assisted by Gwen, whom he shares both his secret and feelings for in a passionate kiss. As night falls, he confronts his father in a large mansion, where both the inspector and Gwen follow him into. Before the hideouts are able to enter, both father and son transform, battling out the overdue feud of their lifetime; after some time, John is beheaded by Lawrence, but Aberline bursts through the door, wielding a gun and aims it at the distraught werewolf, and at the last second, Gwen pushes the gun out of the line of fire (and steals it), also getting the inspector bit in the process. After getting chased by Lawrence, Gwen ends up on her back, pinned down near a steep drop by the snarling wolfman; she finds the tenderness within him long enough to distract him and shoot him through the heart. With a slump into her arms, he shifts back into his human form and with a last breath, mutters, "Thank you".

A crowd of people rush up with Inspector Aberline in front, still bleeding from the bite and holding the silver cane that Talbot once owned.

Movie Review

A Nightmare on Elm Street is a 2010 American slasher film written by Wesley Strick and Eric Heisserer, directed by Samuel Bayer, and produced by Michael Bay, Andrew Form, and Brad Fuller. It is a remake of Wes Craven's 1984 film of the same name and designed to reboot the Nightmare on Elm Street franchise. The film stars Jackie Earle Haley as Freddy Krueger, a role made famous by Robert Englund. Rooney Mara plays Nancy Holbrook, loosely based on the character Nancy Thompson, originally portrayed by Heather Langenkamp. Set in the present day, Freddy stalks the dreams of Nancy and her friends as they discover that they all share a common link from their childhood; they were all physically and sexually abused by Freddy before he was murdered by their vengeful parents. Now a supernatural force in their dreams, Freddy kills off the children that alerted the parents about his deeds. The remake was released in North America on April 30, 2010.

While at the Springwood Diner with his girlfriend, Kris Fowles (Katie Cassidy), Dean Russell (Kellan Lutz) falls asleep at the table and meets a man covered in burn scars, wearing a red and green sweater and a clawed glove on his hand. The burned man cuts Dean's throat in the dream, but in reality it appears that Dean is cutting his own throat as friend and waitress Nancy Holbrook (Rooney Mara) looks on with Kris. At Dean's funeral, Kris sees a photograph of her and Dean as children, but cannot recall ever knowing Dean before high school. Kris begins to dream about the burned man herself and refuses to go to sleep for fear that she will die in her dreams. Jesse Braun (Thomas Dekker), Kris's ex-boyfriend, shows up at her house to keep her company while she sleeps, but Kris meets the burned man in her dreams and is murdered. Covered in blood, Jesse runs to Nancy's house to try to explain what happened and he learns that Nancy has been having dreams about the same man; that man's name is Freddy (Jackie Earle Haley).

Jesse is apprehended by the police under suspicion of murdering Kris, and is killed by Freddy when he falls asleep in his jail cell. With her friends dying, Nancy begins to question what everyone's connection is to each other, given that none of them can remember each other before their teenage years. Eventually, Nancy and her friend Quentin Smith (Kyle Gallner) discover that all of them, including more children, attended the same preschool together. Nancy's mother Gwen (Connie Britton) reluctantly tells Nancy and Quentin that there was a gardener at the preschool, Fred Krueger, who hurt Nancy and the rest of the kids. Gwen explains that Nancy was his favorite, and came home one day telling her mom about Freddy's "magic cave" and the things that happened down there. Gwen claims Krueger skipped town before he was arrested. Nancy does not believe her and attempts to track down the remaining kids from the school. Nancy eventually discovers that all of the other kids have been killed, most of them in their sleep. Meanwhile, Quentin tries to accept that everything is nothing more than repressed memories, but he falls asleep during swim practice and witnesses what really happened to Krueger. Quentin sees everyone's parents hunt down Krueger, and then burn him alive. Quentin and Nancy confront Quentin's father, Alan Smith (Clancy Brown), about the reality they murdered Krueger with no actual evidence that he had committed any crime. Nancy and Quentin, who both begin sporadically dreaming while they are awake as a result of insomnia, decide to go to the preschool and learn what they can about Krueger.

On the way, Nancy falls asleep and is attacked by Freddy, but when Quentin wakes her up they discover she has pulled a piece of Freddy's sweater out of the dreamworld and into reality. Quentin takes Nancy to the hospital for cuts on her arm; there, he steals some adrenaline and a syringe to help them stay awake. Nancy and Quentin leave the hospital and eventually make it to the preschool. Quentin uncovers Krueger's "magic cave" and the evidence that proves Krueger was physically and sexually abusing all of the children. Nancy decides the only way to end this is to pull Krueger out of their dreams and kill him in reality. Quentin tries to stay awake long enough to pull Nancy out of her dream when she has Freddy, but he falls asleep and is attacked. Krueger then goes after Nancy, and explains that he intentionally left her for last so she would stay awake long enough that when she finally fell asleep, she would no longer be able to wake back up. While Nancy struggles with Freddy, Quentin wakes and uses the adrenaline to bring Nancy up and pull Freddy into reality. With Krueger distracted by Quentin, Nancy uses a broken paper cutter blade to cut Freddy's gloved hand off, and then slice his throat. Afterward, Nancy torches the secret room, with Krueger's body left inside, while she and Quentin leave. Nancy and her mother return home from the hospital, with Nancy being told she should get some sleep. Krueger suddenly appears in a mirror's reflection and kills Nancy's mother before pulling her body through the mirror while Nancy screams.

Movie Review

The Spy Next Door is a martial arts action comedy film starring Jackie Chan, Amber Valletta, Billy Ray Cyrus and George Lopez. Filming started in late October in New Mexico and was finished in late December 2008. The film was released on January 15, 2010 in the United States. The film will be released on DVD and Blu-ray on May 18, 2010. The film tributes Chan's films by showing clips, references and even referencing Chan's real life childhood.

Bob Ho (Jackie Chan) is an undercover CIA superspy who decides to give up his career in espionage to settle down with his next-door neighbor and girlfriend, Gillian (Amber Valletta). But Bob has one more mission to complete before Gillian agrees to marry him: winning over her three opinionated kids (Madeline Carroll, Will Shadley and Alina Foley). When Gillian suddenly has to leave town, Bob volunteers to babysit the children so he can earn their approval. But when one of the kids mistakenly downloads a top-secret formula from his computer, Bob's archenemy, a Russian terrorist, moves in for the attack, forcing Bob to juggle the roles of spy and prospective stepfather in the most challenging mission of his career. Bob asks Colton James (Billy Ray Cyrus), his spy partner, to help him, but he is not sure if he can trust Colton.

 The film opens in Russia, on the same day that Tony Stark publicly reveals that he is Iron Man. A gravely ill Anton Vanko offers to pass on his knowledge to his son Ivan, before dying. In grief and enraged at the Stark family's betrayal of his father, Ivan works tirelessly from his father's collected notes and successfully develops his own ARC reactor, fashioning a rudimentary suit armed with a pair of energy-conducting whips.

Six months after the end of the first movie, Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) has used his Iron Man armor as a nuclear deterrent, and a means of maintaining world peace. His immense popularity with the general public is only furthered when he fulfills his father's dream by opening the "Stark Expo", to showcase all the latest inventions that will benefit the world. Stark is, however, still vilified by the United States government, and Senator Stern (Gary Shandling) in particular, who demands that he hand his armor technology over to the United States government, for military application. Stark refuses, publicly shaming rival Justin Hammer (Sam Rockwell) in demonstrating how rival states and groups are at least 5 years away from successfully recreating the technology.

All is not well in Stark's life, however: he has discovered that the palladium in the arc reactor keeping his heart beating has begun to poison his body, slowly killing him, and all attempts to find a substitute element have failed. Slowly going off the rails as a consequence of what he believes to be his impending death, he appoints his former personal assistant Pepper Potts (Gwyneth Paltrow) CEO of Stark Industries, replacing her with Natalie Rushman (Scarlett Johansson).

While racing his own team's Formula 1 car in Monaco, Stark is attacked by Ivan Vanko (Mickey Rourke). Defeating Vanko with the aid of his Mark V armor (a transforming briefcase), Stark discovers that Vanko is the son of disgraced Russian physicist Anton Vanko, who collaborated on the first arc reactor with Stark's father Howard (John Slattery). But when Anton wanted to use the arc to earn money, Howard had him deported back to Russia. Vanko is promptly broken out of jail by a revenge-seeking Justin Hammer, who puts him to work fashioning a line of "Iron Drones" that he will use to upstage Stark at his own Expo.

Tony throws what he believes will be his last birthday party and proceeds to get drunk whilst wearing the Iron Man armor, becoming a danger to himself and others, forcing his friend Lt. Colonel James Rhodes (Don Cheadle) to don the Mark II armor and subdue him. Disgraced, having lost his best friend and part of his house, Stark is approached by Nick Fury of S.H.I.E.L.D (Samuel L. Jackson), who provides him with a chest of his father's old artifacts that can hopefully be used to find a cure for his palladium poisoning. Reviewing the film reels in the chest, Stark discovers a message from his father that leads him to the original 1974 diorama of the Stark Expo: in reality, a disguised diagram for the atomic structure of a new element. Stark hand-builds a particle accelerator with the aid of his computer J.A.R.V.I.S. (voiced by Paul Bettany) and synthesizes this new element, creating a new triangular chest arc that cures his poisoning.

Simultaneously, at Stark Expo, Hammer unveils his new military drones, captained by Rhodes in a heavily-weaponized version of the confiscated Mark II armor. Stark arrives at the expo in his new Mark VI armor, attempting to warn Rhodes and find Vanko, but then Vanko takes complete control of both the drones and Rhodes's new armor and attacks Iron Man. As Stark battles against these remote-controlled enemies, Happy Hogan (Jon Favreau) and Natalie (actually undercover S.H.I.E.L.D. agent named Natasha Romanoff) race to Hammer's Queens facility to stop Vanko. By the time they arrive, Vanko has already departed for the Expo in a new, more powerful suit of armor, but Natalie is able to give Rhodes control of his armor again so that he and Stark can fight the drones and Vanko together.

The two armored allies hold off the drones and confront Vanko, combining their suit's repulsor charges and successfully taking Vanko down. However, Vanko's armor and drones are revealed to have been equipped with self-destruct charges. As they begin to go off, Stark races to save Pepper, rescuing her at the last minute. After landing on a roof she quits her CEO position, and the two finally kiss. Rhodes is revealed to have watched the whole exchange, before leaving with the War Machine armor despite Stark's objection.

At a debriefing, Fury informs Stark that while Stark is "unsuitable" for the "Avengers Initiative", S.H.I.E.L.D. wants Iron Man as a consultant. He agrees on the condition that Senator Stern present him and Col. Rhodes with their medals for bravery.

In a post-credits scene, S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Coulson (Clark Gregg) is seen driving to a remote impact crater in the New Mexico desert. He then informs Fury over the phone that they've "found him".

The crater is shown to contain Mjolnir, the hammer of Thor.
