Movie Review

In 1989, Kevin Flynn (Jeff Bridges), an innovative software engineer and the CEO of ENCOM International, disappears. Twenty years later, his son, Sam (Garrett Hedlund), who became ENCOM's controlling shareholder after his father's disappearance, takes little interest in the company besides an annual practical joke on the board of directors. Sam is visited by his father's friend and ENCOM executive Alan Bradley (Bruce Boxleitner), who urges Sam to investigate a mysterious page originating from Flynn's old arcade. While exploring the shuttered arcade, Sam discovers a concealed computer laboratory and unintentionally transports himself to the Grid, a virtual world inside the computer.

Sam is captured and taken to the game arena, where he is pitted against Rinzler, the champion of the games. During their duel, Rinzler notices that Sam is not a Program, but rather a User. Rinzler takes Sam before Clu, a digital copy of Kevin Flynn, who rules over the Grid. Clu nearly kills Sam in a Light Cycle match before Quorra (Olivia Wilde) rescues him. Taken to a distant, off-grid hideout in the "Outlands," Sam is reunited with his father.

Flynn explains that he had been working on a new, "perfect" system and had appointed Clu as its co-creator. After much work, Flynn discovered a new series of sentient "isomorphic algorithms" (ISOs), self-produced Programs that carried the potential to unlock mysteries in science, religion, and medicine. Clu considered these Programs to be an imperfection so he betrayed Flynn, defeated Tron (who sacrificed himself to give Kevin enough time to escape) and had the ISOs wiped out. Flynn also revealed that while he hid from Clu, the portal back to the real world had closed, making him captive of his own creation until Sam re-opened it from the outside.

Resolving to make it back to the real world where he would be able to delete Clu, Sam makes his way back onto The Grid to find a Program named Zuse, who he believes can provide safe passage to the portal. The End of Line Club owner, Castor (Michael Sheen), reveals himself to be Zuse and, instead of helping Sam, betrays him to Clu's guards. Though Flynn and Quorra arrive just in time to help Sam escape, Quorra is grievously wounded and Zuse gains possession of Flynn's identity disc. Knowing the disc works as a master key to The Grid, Zuse attempts to use it to bargain with Clu, but Clu simply takes it and destroys the club. Flynn and Sam save the injured Quorra and stow away aboard a freighter heading towards the portal. While Flynn heals Quorra, he reveals her to be the last surviving ISO.

The three unexpectedly arrive at a station aboard a massive warship and encounter Rinzler. As Quorra attempts to distract him, Flynn recognizes Rinzler as a reprogrammed Tron (whom he believed to have been killed by Clu). Elsewhere on the ship, Clu addresses his army, expressing his desire to enter the real world and "perfect" it. Sam saves Quorra from Rinzler and reclaims Flynn's disc. The trio then commandeer an aerial shuttle and escape, but Clu, Rinzler and several guards pursue them in Light Jets. Between Quorra's evasive flying and Sam manning the rear turret, the three manage to shoot down the guards. As Rinzler moves to destroy the shuttle, he makes eye contact with Flynn and his original identity as Tron suddenly resurfaces. Declaring, "I fight for the Users," Tron deliberately collides with Clu's Light Jet, destroying both vehicles. As the two fall, Clu wrestles away Tron's spare baton, creates another Light Jet, and continues to the portal. Tron falls into the Sea of Simulation, where his armor reverts to its original blue.

Sam, Flynn and Quorra finally reach the portal, only to find Clu blocking their path. After attempting to reason with Clu, Flynn sacrifices himself to end the impasse, pulling Clu toward him and causing the two to merge, while Sam and Quorra use Flynn's disc to travel through the portal back to the real world. Flynn and Clu merge, causing a massive explosion that destroys the portal.

Back in the basement of Flynn's arcade, Sam backs up the system onto his flash drive and powers it off. He then meets Alan and tells him that he will start working at ENCOM, and, as the controlling interest shareholder, he will name Alan chairman of the board. Quorra meets Sam outside, and the two take off on his motorcycle. The movie ends with Sam showing Quorra the sunrise she has longed to see.

Movie Review

Minister Rufus Scrimgeour addresses the wizarding media stating that the Ministry of Magic will remain strong as Lord Voldemort gains power throughout the Wizarding and Muggle worlds. Severus Snape arrives at Malfoy Manor to inform Lord Voldemort and his Death Eaters of Harry's departure from No. 4 Privet Drive. Voldemort relieves Lucius Malfoy of his wand, as his own cannot be used to kill Harry.

Meanwhile, the Order of the Phoenix arrive at Privet Drive and escort Harry to safety using Polyjuice Potion to create six decoy Harrys. During their flight to the Burrow they are ambushed by Death Eaters, resulting in the deaths of Mad-Eye Moody and Hedwig. Voldemort attempts to kill Harry with Malfoy's wand, but fails. At the Burrow, Harry has a vision in which he sees Mr. Ollivander being tormented by Voldemort, who claims that the wand-maker had lied to him by informing him of the only way to kill Harry: obtaining another's wand.

Scrimgeour arrives at the Burrow and distributes items from Albus Dumbledore's will to Ron, Hermione and Harry. Ron receives Dumbledore's Deluminator; Hermione, a copy of The Tales of Beedle the Bard; and Harry is given the Golden Snitch. It's revealed that Harry was also willed to receive the Sword of Godric Gryffindor, however Scrimgeour states that the sword is an important historical artifact and is not eligible to be given away.

Later, the wedding of Bill Weasley and Fleur Delacour is disrupted by Death Eaters, who have infiltrated the Ministry and are using its authority to persecute Muggle-born witches and wizards. The trio disapparate to London and find sanctuary at No. 12 Grimmauld Place. There they discover that the "R.A.B." from the false Horcrux locket is Regulus Arcturus Black, the younger brother of Sirius Black. From Kreacher, the Black's house-elf, they learn that Mundungus Fletcher has stolen the real locket. Kreacher and Dobby apprehend Fletcher, who reveals that the locket is in the possession of Dolores Umbridge. Under the disguise of Polyjuice Potion, the trio infiltrate the Ministry and successfully retrieve the locket, escaping into the wilderness.

Unable to destroy the Horcrux, they take turns wearing it in order to dilute its negative psychological effects. Harry sees a vision of Voldemort interrogating Gregorovitch, a renowned wand-maker who claims that a teenage boy had once stolen the legendary Elder Wand from his shop. Voldemort then begins to search for the thief. While Ron wears the locket, he is overcome with the suspicion that Harry and Hermione are forming a relationship. As a result, he abandons them. Harry and Hermione then visit Godric's Hollow where they seek Bathilda Bagshot, the historian who may have the Sword of Gryffindor which they believe will destroy Horcruxes. However, they are cornered by Voldemort's snake, Nagini, and they barely escape. Hermione identifies the mysterious thief seen in Harry's vision as Gellert Grindelwald.

When evening falls, Harry sees a doe Patronus and follows it to a frozen pond where he finds Gryffindor's sword beneath the ice. Harry, with the locket around his neck, dips into the water to reach the sword. The locket attempts to drown him but Ron returns just in time to rescue Harry. Ron struggles to destroy the locket, and eventually overcomes its power, smashing it with the sword.

The trio then visit Xenophilius Lovegood to learn about a symbol seen several times on their journey. They learn that the symbol represents the Deathly Hallows: the Elder Wand, the Resurrection Stone and the Cloak of Invisibility. Lovegood then betrays them to the Death Eaters in an effort to have his kidnapped daughter returned. Among the chaos, Harry envisions Grindelwald telling Voldemort that the Elder Wand lies with Dumbledore. The trio are captured and taken to Malfoy Manor where Bellatrix Lestrange imprisons Harry and Ron in a wine cellar in which they discover Luna, Ollivander, and Griphook the goblin. Bellatrix tortures Hermione for information on how they found the sword, which was supposedly in Bellatrix's vault at Gringotts. After Dobby apparates to save them, Harry duels with Draco and defeats him. After the short battle, Dobby is killed by Bellatrix in the process of escaping. Finally, Voldemort breaks into Dumbledore's tomb and steals the Elder Wand.

MOVIE REVIEW

Set in the 14th century, three women accused of witchcraft are hanged and then drowned by a priest. He performs rituals to prevent the witches from coming back from the dead, however one of the witches takes on a demonic appearance and kills the priest. Cutting to a hundred years later during the Crusades, knights Behmen (Cage) and Felson (Perlman) choose to desert the war, after seeing women and children mercilessly slaughtered, and return home. They discover the Black Plague has swept across the land and most townspeople believe it was caused by sorcery and the devil. Upon entering a town, Behmen's sword shows his crest and he and Felson are identified as deserters and taken to Cardinal D'Ambroise who is infected with the plague. The Cardinal asks the knights to escort an apparent witch suspected of having caused the plague, to a remote monastery where an elite group of monks reside, capable of determining if the girl is truly a witch; if she is found guilty, these monks also know a sacred ritual that can cancel her powers, and stop the plague that is devastating Europe. The two knights agree, but under one condition, that she will be given a fair trial. The Cardinal agrees, and they set out accompanied by a priest Debelzaq, a young man Kay, a grieving knight Eckhardt whose family were killed by the plague, and the swindler Hagamar who leads the way to the monastery. The witch, a young girl later identified as Anna, shows hatred towards Debelzaq and forms a bond with Behmen.[4]

Shortly after setting off, the group camp for the night where Eckhardt volunteers to watch the witch for the first night. After a while Debelzaq comes to relieve Eckhardt, but decides to stay with him since his tormented thoughts of the death of his family prevent him from sleeping anyway. Eckhardt talks about his daughter Mila, who resembled Anna. As Eckhardt leaves, Anna escapes after attacking Debelzaq from within her cage and flees to a nearby town. During the search for her, Eckhardt has visions of his dead daughter and is accidentally killed by Kay. One man down, the group become less trusting of Anna including Behmen. The group manage to successfully cross a rickety rope bridge, after Anna saves Kay from falling to his death by grabbing him with one hand, showing an unnatural strength. The group enter the dark forest called Wormwood, where Hagamar attempts to kill Anna so the group can go home, only to be stopped by the others. Anna appears to summon wolves, who chase the group and kill Hagamar. An enraged Behmen tries to kill Anna, but is stopped by Felson when the monastery is in sight.[4]

Arriving at the monastery, the men find all of the monks have been killed by the plague but locate the Key of Solomon, an ancient book filled with holy rituals used to defeat evil. The men confront Anna, with Debelzaq beginning to perform a ritual used on witches. However, Anna melts her cage and reveals she has been deceiving them all along, revealing herself to be a male demon using Anna as a vessel. The demon plots to destroy the last version of the book so the evil can be free to cover the world in darkness. While the men prepare for battle against the evil forces, they find a room where the now-dead monks were writing copies of the book. The demon appears, destroys the copies and possesses the monks' bodies to use as weapons. During the fight, the demon kills Debelzaq by breaking his neck and then incinerates Felson. Behmen fights the demon and has Kay finish the exorcism which destroys the demon, but Behmen is mortally wounded and dies shortly after, asking Kay to look after the freed Anna. After making graves for their fallen friends, Kay and Anna depart with the book in hand.

MOVIE REVIEW

The film begins with Driver (Dwayne Johnson) being released from prison after talking to the warden (Tom Berenger) who tells him he should be a better person. He exits curtly, retrieves his car and drives to an office where he shoots and kills a man.

Driver then goes to the man (Mike Epps) who gave him the car and the gun and forces him to give him the names and info for the rest of some list he compiled for Driver. Meanwhile, Driver is being tracked down by detective Cicero (Carla Gugino) and Cop (Billy Bob Thornton), a middle-aged cop whose life is off track. They investigate the office crime scene and video from the scene. Cicero gets a break in the case when she recognizes Driver. Later, a nameless hitman 'Killer' (Oliver Jackson-Cohen) is hired to kill Driver. Killer tells his girlfriend Lily (Maggie Grace) that it is his last job, and while he seems to feel the conflict between his professional life and love life with Lily, he decides to go.

Driver heads to the second name on his list. It's a man who films his own personal snuff films, and he is in the middle of filming his taking advantage of a girl he drugged. Driver busts in the door and distracts the man, whom he shortly shoots dead. Killer has tracked the man with the camera as well and initiates a gun fight in the hallway, but Driver escapes. This affects the hitman philosophically, who proposes to his girlfriend and takes the case personally.

It's revealed that Cop has a drug problem, along with his girlfriend (Moon Bloodgood). Cop and Detective are investigating Driver's past and discover he was double crossed. Cicero remembered Driver from a video, filmed by the man Driver has just killed, of his brother's death. On tape, Driver is shot in the head by an unidentified man, but narrowly survives, needing surgery and a metal plate to fix his skull.

Driver goes to his old girlfriend's (Jennifer Carpenter) house. She knows he's killing the people in the video and tells him she hopes he succeeds. Driver then goes to Nevada to kill the man who slit his brother's throat. He confronts the man in the bathroom and leaves him to bleed out after stabbing him several times. Meanwhile, both Cop and Killer have gotten word that the man survived the stabbing and is in the hospital. Knowing Driver will go back to finish him, they converge on the place.

Driver enters the hospital and kills the man in the Operating Room. Cop attempts to bring down Driver but is unsuccessful; Driver, however, spares his life after seeing his badge. While driving away from the hospital, Driver encounters Killer who manages to shoot Driver in the neck after Driver shoots out his tires.

Driver goes to the second-to-last name on the list only to find out the man is dead. While there he gets stitched up and resolves to finish off the list. Driver goes to a traveling evangelist after his service is over and everyone has left. The evangelist knows why Driver is there and tries to convince him that he has turned his life around. Driver then spares him and goes inside the church where he is confronted by Killer.

Detective Cicero learns the true identity of the man who shot driver. She hurries to the church with Cop already on the scene. Killer tells Driver to pick up his gun so they can have a true test of skill. But Driver declines since the man's girlfriend is a nice person and he has no beef with him except when he shot him in the neck earlier in the film. Killer then explains he wanted to be better since he could not walk when he was a child.

Cop walks in and shoots Driver in the head. It is revealed that Cop originally tried to kill Driver. He gives Killer a dollar but Killer declines, saying he's retired. Cop calls his girlfriend, who turns out to be Driver's brother's former girlfriend. Suddenly, he is shot by Driver, who reveals he survived his shot due to the metal plate in his skull. Detective Cicero arrives on the scene but Driver has already left, and he scatters his brother's ashes before driving off.

Movie Review

In a rail yard within the northern Pennsylvania town of Fuller, a pair of hostlers working for the Allegheny and West Virginia Railroad (AWVR) are ordered to move a freight train off its current track to make way for an excursion train carrying schoolchildren. One of the hostlers, Dewey (Ethan Suplee), chooses not to connect the locomotive's air hose to save time; he does this knowing that the train's air brakes will only apply on the lead locomotive in this configuration, but decides to connect the hoses after parking the train on another track. Dewey sets the locomotive's throttle at 100% in order to enable the train's dynamic brakes, but sees that an approaching switch is not set to the right track. Dewey jumps down to line the switch properly, while the levers in the cab, unattended, fall of their own accord. The train picks up speed, and Dewey is unsuccessful in his attempts to reboard. It leaves the yard and enters the main line unmanned.

Meanwhile, Will Colson (Chris Pine) is a newly-hired conductor for AWVR, and is partnered with veteran engineer Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington). Barnes and Colson meet by their locomotive for the day in the southern Pennsylvania city of Stanton, where Barnes, a 28-year employee, finds out that Colson, who will be in charge of the train, is only four months out of training. He reminds Colson that if there's anything he doesn't know, he should just ask. They take the locomotive out to where they will attach their train for the day, where, after Colson makes the mistake of picking up too many cars, they leave Stanton bound for a zinc plant.

In Fuller, the hostlers let yardmaster Connie Hooper (Rosario Dawson) know that that they have a runaway train headed into opposing traffic on the main line. Assuming the dead man's switch will trigger the brakes and turn the train into a "coaster" that stops a few miles from the yard, she tells them to catch up with a speeder and stop it. She also calls Ned, a welder for the railroad, and tells him to set a switch. When he arrives at the switch, after waiting some minutes, the hostlers arrive, and it becomes clear that the train has passed already, moving faster than expected due to being under power. The hostlers proceed to catch up with the train, but do not succeed in boarding it.

Connie and the dispatchers work to get every train on the main line onto sidings. Oscar Galvin (Kevin Dunn), Connie's superior, calls her and asks her what's happening and what she's doing about it. She hasn't yet figured out how to stop the train, but works to make sure that each of the grade crossings along the line are secured, since 8 of the tank cars on the runaway train collectively contain 80,000 gallons of molten phenol, a hazardous material.

On their train, Barnes and Colson hear the dispatcher's order to pull into a siding. Barnes says they can't use the siding initially assigned since the train is too long to fit in it. He asks instead if an RIP track further down the line is clear and gets permission to continue along the main line to it.

Galvin overrules Connie's suggestion to derail the train in an area of lightly populated farmland, since it would be too costly and it is still possible to stop the train. An emergency meeting of railroad executives approves another plan, but Galvin refuses to tell Connie what it is. The train's odyssey becomes a media event, followed by helicopters with continuous coverage on television and reporters at crossings in small towns.

The company's plan, to have a lashup of two locomotives enter the main line ahead of the runaway and slow it down while another employee attempts to board the lead locomotive from a helicopter, fails catastrophically, leading to the derailment of the lashup locomotives and the death of the veteran engineer operating them. The police abort another plan of triggering the safety switch on the locomotive's side with close-range shotgun blasts at a grade crossing when they realize the switch's proximity to the fuel tank. Barnes and Colson make it into the RIP track in the nick of time, as the runaway smashes through the rearmost car of their consist.

As the train passes, Barnes sees that the coupling on the last car of the runaway is open. He decides to put his locomotive in reverse and catch the runaway by coupling onto the back of it. Colson, at first reluctant, joins him. Galvin insists that Barnes, Colson, and Connie abandon the plan, but they refuse even after Galvin threatens to fire them. Barnes then reveals that he has already been fired by Galvin, being 72 days into his 90 day notice period.

Another attempt to stop the train with derailers in a small town fails because the train is too heavy and going too fast. Evacuations begin as the train approaches Stanton, where the line crosses the town on a sharp elevated curve. Taking the curve at the runaway's current speed would result in it derailing and falling into a fuel oil tank farm, causing a major disaster.

Barnes and Colson catch up with the runaway. After Colson manually couples their locomotive to the train, they begin slowing it down with their own brakes, but are unable to slow the runaway down enough to safely navigate the curve. Barnes goes out onto the train and begins setting each car's brakes manually, but is stopped at a gap between two cars that is too wide to bridge. Colson then applies an independent brake from the chase locomotive. These two factors slow the train down just enough to get it through the curve with precarious tilting, rather than a derailment. After coming out of the curve, however, the chase locomotive's brakes blow out and the train begins to pick up speed again.

Ned the welder catches up to the train, and Colson jumps into the back of his truck. Driving at high speed they make it to the front of the runaway, where Colson jumps to the lead locomotive and finally stops the train. Barnes and Colson are declared heroes and reunite with their worried families.

Elaine (Scottie Thompson) and Jarrod (Eric Balfour) have flown to Los Angeles for Jarrod's best friend Terry's (Donald Faison) birthday party. They spend the night celebrating with his girlfriend, Candice (Brittany Daniel), and his assistant, Denise (Crystal Reed). During the party, one of Terry's employees, Ray (Neil Hopkins), welcomes Jarrod to L.A., thinking he has moved there to join Terry's company. During a private argument about whether or not they should move to L.A., Elaine reveals that she is pregnant.

Early the next morning, bright blue lights descend from the sky, entrancing anyone who looks at them. The light turns their eyes milky white and inflames blood vessels, so that they stand up on the skin. Held captive by the light, humans are immobilized and engulfed by the aliens. Ray suffers this fate, but Jarrod is saved when Terry tackles him. Jarrod returns to normal shortly after. He and Terry decide to investigate the light from the roof of the highrise, where they see several alien ships descend over the blue lights and vacuum up thousands of entranced humans. Locked out on the roof, they are almost captured by flying aliens, but Elaine opens the door from inside. She is temporarily mesmerized, but Jarrod saves her.

Back in the apartment, Jarrod points out that the water seems to be free of spacecraft. He argues that it would be a safer place than Terry's condo. The group attempts to reach the marina by car. They split into two groups: Terry and Denise in one and Candice, Jarrod, and Elaine in the other. Before they begin to drive off, they meet a couple, Colin (J. Paul Boehmer) and Jen (Tanya Newbould), also attempting to flee the building. Terry's car is the first to leave, and it is immediately stomped flat by a massive "tanker" alien. Denise is presumably killed while Terry is captured. As the remaining survivors flee back into the garage, they encounter another alien capturing Colin. It corners the rest of the group, but it is knocked out when the building's concierge, Oliver (David Zayas), slams into it with an SUV. Colin is still alive inside the alien, but, as the group tries to free him, the alien wakes up, sucks out Colin's brain, which glows blue, and inserts the organ into its head, as a transplant.

Jen is captured as the group retreats back into the building. The United States Air Force launches a drone attack on the spaceships, nuking the biggest one. The bomb seems to destroy the ship, then it slowly begins to repair itself. After sharing with Elaine how the mesmerizing light made him feel powerful, and that he still feels powerful, Jarrod becomes adamant that they must seek safety elsewhere before it is too late. Oliver tries to restrain him, but Jarrod's eyes turn milky and his veins start to show again, as before. He demonstrates considerable strength, lifting Oliver off the floor with one hand, and swears that nothing will stop him from protecting his family. An Army helicopter lands on the roof, dropping off several snipers with .50 caliber rifles. Jarrod and Elaine go to the roof hoping to ride the next helicopter to safety. Oliver and Candice continue to hide in Terry's penthouse. Candice is absorbed and Oliver sacrifices himself in an attempt to blow up a "Tanker" alien on the side of the building. By tag-teaming an alien, Jarrod and Elaine resist capture, eventually killing it. In spite of this temporary reprieve, Jarrod and Elaine are trapped when the aliens defeat the military. Resigned to their fate, they both look into the blue light of an alien ship and embrace as they are abducted.

A montage shows that cities like New York City, London, Hong Kong, and Las Vegas have all fallen prey to the invaders. Onboard the alien spacecraft, tendrils are inserting human brains into alien husks, re-animating them. Elaine helplessly watches as Jarrod's brain is removed from his body. She is spared this fate when the alien sorter realizes that she is pregnant. Elaine is then transported to another chamber. Meanwhile, Jarrod's brain, which glows red instead of blue, is inserted into an alien body. Instead of simply powering the alien body, Jarrod seems to retain control and conscious, he leaps to the aid of Elaine and their unborn child. The film ends with a series of still images between the credits that depict "Jarrod" protecting Elaine and their child from the other aliens.

MOVIE REVIEW

In 2012, private corporations own and manage the prison systems. Getaway driver Carl "Luke" Lucas (Luke Goss) is arrested after a robbery for his crime boss Markus Kane (Sean Bean) goes wrong. As his accomplices are robbing the bank, two officers casually enter the building. Luke tells them to abort, but they refuse; Luke intervenes, but it results in the death of one of the three accomplices. Luke shoots and kills one of the officers and dumps off his accomplices in order to fulfill Markus's wishes. In doing so, Luke is eventually captured by the police following a high-speed chase and sentenced to serve time on Terminal Island.

Terminal Island is a prison under the control of The Weyland Corporation, which hosts Death Match, a televised pay-per-view competition where two dangerous convicts are chosen and then forced to fight to the death or submission. The prisoners are given access to weapons or defense items to use during the fight by stepping on a marked plate in the arena. Luke meets the men who eventually become his pit crew in the Death Race: Lists (Frederick Koehler), who annoys him by over-analyzing everything, Goldberg (Danny Trejo), and Rocco (Joe Vaz). The host of Death Match is September Jones (Lauren Cohan), a former Miss Universe who lost her crown due to allegations of having a sexual relationship with all of its judges. She now works for The Weyland Corporation to create profit from the pay per view subscribers of Death Match. When a convict tries to stab Lists (because of his nature and weakness, as he was convicted only of swindling), Luke takes it upon himself to defend him.

Luke is later approached in the showers by September, who proposes that he fight. When he refuses, she makes sexual advances towards him, which he pretends to go for before refusing. In retaliation, September chooses Lists to fight in a Death Match with the convict who tried to stab him earlier. Luke confronts her while Lists is running for his life during the event, pleading to let him fight in place of Lists. She refuses to help and he jumps over a barbed fence to fight for Lists. He is joined by Katrina Banks (Tanit Phoenix), a woman convict who is serving as a ring girl with other female convicts. She hits the convict with a round number sign made of metal. A riot breaks out during the fight between Luke and the convict because of racial tension, sparked because Luke is white and the other convict is black. The convicts break down the fence to get in, and some of the rapists attack and attempt to rape female convicts. Katrina defends herself and helps other women, who are then evacuated. When the riot control guards come, Luke surrenders. Markus, worried that Luke will trade info on his crimes for immunity, discovers his location at Terminal Island while watching Death Match. Afterward, Luke is well-received when he sees Katrina and inquires about her well-being after the fight.

Movie Review

After panning across some idling diesel locomotives under the opening credits, the film begins with scenes at two rail yards in different regions of Pennsylvania run by the fictional Allegheny and West Virginia Railroad (AWVR). In the Fuller yard in northern Pennsylvania, children arrive for a school field trip on rail safety. Meanwhile, in the southern Pennsylvania town of Stanton, Will Colson (Chris Pine) gets up for work, stopping to surreptitiously watch his wife put their son on the school bus. He calls her but she refuses to even answer.

Arriving at work, Colson, a conductor, gets his orders for the day and learns that he will be working with engineer Frank Barnes (Denzel Washington), with whom he has never worked before. He goes to a group of older workers, with whom he has some barbed words over their age differences, and finds Barnes among them. While he goes to punch in, the other older workers complain about being displaced by Colson, who they say got his job through family connections in the union.

Meanwhile, in Fuller, the yardmaster yells at a pair of hostlers who have been standing idle near a train to get it moved off its current track so that the schoolchildren's excursion train can use the track to get out of the yard. In a hurry, one of them, Dewey (Ethan Suplee), decides against connecting the air hose between the lead locomotive and the rest of the half-mile–long (approx. 800m) train to save time. This, the other hostler reminds him, means that the train's air brakes will only apply on the lead locomotive, but Dewey says they will connect the hoses after parking the train on another track.

Barnes and Colson meet by their locomotive for the day, where Barnes, a 28-year employee, finds out that Colson, who will be in charge of the train, is only four months out of training. He reminds Colson that if there's anything he doesn't know, he should just ask. They take the locomotive out to where they will attach their train for the day. Colson learns that a court hearing that morning ended with the extension of a restraining order preventing him from seeing his wife and son rather than a lifting, as he had hoped.

In the locomotive cab at the Fuller yard, Dewey sets the locomotive's throttle at 100% in order to enable the train's dynamic brakes. As it approaches a switch, Dewey sees that it is not set to the right track. Against the advice of the other hostler, he jumps down from the slow-moving train to line the switch properly. While he does, levers fall in the cab of their own accord. As the train has since picked up speed, Dewey is unsuccessful in his attempts to reboard. It leaves the yard and enters the main line unmanned.

After some slight setbacks at the yard due to Colson's inexperience, including picking up more cars than they had in their orders, the two leave Stanton for a zinc plant. In Fuller, the hostlers let yardmaster Connie Hooper (Rosario Dawson) know that that they have a runaway train headed into opposing traffic on the main line. Assuming the dead man's switch will trigger the brakes and turn the train into a "coaster" that stops a few miles from the yard, she calls Ned, a welder for the railroad and tells him to meet the hostlers where they can get in his truck, catch the train, and stop it.

By the time they get there, however, they realize that the train is under power and is going too fast to catch. Connie and the dispatchers work to get every train on the main line onto sidings. The train carrying the schoolchildren narrowly avoids a head-on collision. Oscar Galvin (Kevin Dunn), Connie's superior, calls her and asks her what's happening and what she's doing about it. She hasn't yet figured out how to stop the train and begins calling the state police to make sure that each of the grade crossings along the line are secured, since some of the tank cars on the runaway train contain molten phenol, a hazardous material.

On their train, Barnes and Colson hear the dispatcher's order to pull into a siding. Barnes says they can't use the siding initially assigned since the train is too long to fit in it. He asks instead if a RIP track further down the line is clear and gets permission to continue along the main line to it.

Galvin overrules Connie's suggestion to derail the train in an area of lightly populated farmland, since it would be too costly and it is still possible to stop the train. An emergency meeting of railroad executives approves another plan, but Galvin refuses to tell Connie what it is. The train's odyssey becomes a media event, followed by helicopters with continuous coverage on television and reporters at crossings in small towns. The train, picking up speed, smashes through a horse trailer caught on the tracks at one crossing.

The company's plan, to have a lashup of two locomotives enter the main line ahead of the runaway and slow it down while another employee attempts to board the runaway's locomotive from a helicopter, fails and leads to the destruction of the locomotives and the death of the veteran engineer operating them. The police abort another plan, to trigger the safety switch on the locomotive's side with close-range shotgun blasts at a grade crossing, when they realize the switch's proximity to the fuel tank. A state trooper's radar gun shows the train's speed to be 71 miles per hour (114 km/h). Barnes and Colson make into the RIP track in the nick of time, as the runaway smashes through the rearmost car of their consist.

As it passes, Barnes sees that the coupling on the last car of the runaway is open. He decides to put his locomotive in reverse and catch the runaway by coupling onto the back of it. Colson, at first reluctant, joins him. Galvin insists that Barnes, Colson, and Connie abandon the plan, but they refuse even after Galvin threatens to fire them. But Barnes doesn't care as he has already been fired by Gavin. Barnes is 72 days into his 90 days notice period.

Another attempt to stop the train with derails in a small town fails because the train is too heavy and going too fast. Evacuations begin as the train approaches Stanton, where the line crosses the town on a sharp elevated curve. Taking the curve at the runaway's current speed would result in it derailing and falling into a fuel oil tank farm, causing a major environmental disaster.

Barnes and Colson catch up with the runaway. After Colson manually couples their locomotive to the train, severely injuring his foot in the process, they begin slowing it down with their own brakes, but are unable to slow the runaway down enough to safely navigate the curve. Barnes goes out onto the train and begins setting each car's brakes manually, with Colson applying an independent brake from the chase locomotive. This slows the train down just enough to get it through the curve with precarious tilting, rather than a derailment. After coming out of the curve, however, the chase locomotive's brakes blow out and the train begins to pick up speed again.

Ned the welder catches up to the train, and Colson jumps into the back of his truck. Driving at high speed they make it to the locomotive, where Colson is finally able to get into the cab and he finally stops the train. Colson and Barnes are declared heroes, and Colson reunites with his wife and son.

In a short epilogue, it is revealed that Barnes was promoted and retired with full benefits, that Colson got back together with his wife who is now pregnant with their second child, Connie was promoted to Galvin's job, and that Dewey is now working "in the fast-food industry".

Movie Details

The story begins in traditional video style, as several of the film's characters are recorded and asked a series of questions about why they dance. The film then cuts to Moose (Adam Sevani) and Camille (Alyson Stoner) who are both dancers and attend New York University. Moose is majoring in electrical engineering after promising his mother that he would not dance anymore. At that moment, he saw a pair of Limited Edition Gun Metal Nike Dunks worn by Luke (Rick Malambri). Moose followed the shoes and then accidentally stumbles upon a dance battle, where he beats Kid Darkness from House of Samurai. Luke takes him back to his place, an old warehouse converted into a club. Luke shows Moose the House of Pirates, his dance crew, where he later teams up with them to compete in the World Jam dance contest against their rivals, the House of Samurai dance crew. But then, Jacob (Keith Stallworth), a member of House of Pirates, informs Luke that the warehouse will be put up for auction if the overdue rents are not made.

Luke meets a girl named Natalie (Sharni Vinson) at his club and quickly takes notice of her dancing abilities, enlisting her to become part of his crew. However, he is unaware of Natalie's true motives.

Moose found his time to be increasingly tighter as he had to choose between studies and dance many times, including once when his test clashes with a dance competition. He decides to go for the test, but upon seeing the test paper and receiving an angry message from Luke, he decides to ditch the test and rushes to the competition in the nick of time.

Luke and Natalie become increasingly close as the movie progresses. They share many intimate moments. Luke explains his true intentions with his recordings and dance interviews. Yet, Natalie is hiding the fact that her brother is Julien (Joe Slaughter) the leader of their enemy, House of Samurai, and lies about everything but the love connection between her and Luke.

Natalie faces a hard decision torn between her love and her family. She confronts Luke and asks what happened with him and Julien. To her surprise, he says that Julien had a gambling problem and he put a wager on the warehouse, so they kicked him out. After arguing with Julien, she decides to leave Luke. However, Julien uses her phone to invite Luke for her birthday party. Luke asks Moose to attend the party with him, as he wanted a friend with him, but because they had no invitation, they weren't permitted to enter. They find a way to get in, then finally sees her on the dance floor and dance tango. While they were having an intimate moment, Julien takes the chance to appear and reveals Natalie's identity. Luke is angry with Natalie. When Luke arrives back at the warehouse, he finds it is closed. Angry at himself for not being a better leader, he exclaims that the House of Pirates is over, and the crew goes their separate ways.

Meanwhile, Moose and Camille are best friends but Moose doesn't seem to see that Camille is in love with him. The two fall out during the film because Moose lies to Camille about dancing and she feels like he can't talk to her anymore. Camille feels that Moose doesn't have time for her anymore and tells him she misses him and feels like he doesn't miss her at all. Moose tells Camille that he misses dancing but misses her more and that she is his best friend in the whole world.

The two make up on NYC streets by dancing to a remix of Gene Kelly and Ginger Rogers. Camille tells Moose that he can never give up dancing as he was born to do it. Moose then helps out Luke by bringing the House of Pirates back together, and giving him additional members for his crew including Camille and The MSA Crew from Step Up 2: The Streets. They later find out one of their former members is over with the House of Samurai. They also find out Julien is buying their warehouse, but says if they throw the battle, they can have it back. They don't take the offer.

Natalie helps Luke to win the World Jam at the end with the routine they had practiced in the past. She invites him to come with her to California, which he does at the end of the film, meeting her at the train station and kissing her. Following this, Moose kisses Camille, showing her he really does like her. Before leaving for California with Natalie, Luke gives Moose a pair of Limited Edition Gun Metal Nike Dunks which he saw at the beginning of the film. The film ends with Moose and Camille saying "Lets Party People" to the crew.
